Special Needs Kids Need Toys, Too
The National Lekotek Center has compiled a 52-page catalog, "Toy Guide for Differently Abled
Kids," which showcases 85 toys that are suited for children with a variety of special needs. Each
toy in the guide includes a detailed description of how it can be used, along with icons indicating
whether the toy can stimulate development in such areas as creativity, self-esteem, vision or
hearing. The criteria for choosing the toys include those that are easy to handle or manipulate,
and don't have a "right way" of being used. The guide, which is being underwritten and distributed
by Toys 'R Us, can be useful to people buying toys for many of the more than 6 million children in
the United States with disabilities.
Bag A Worthy Cause
This fall, Tumi introduces two items specially designed to raise funds for worthy causes.
Want to make a statement on the golf course? Then try The Bernadette, a limited edition pink golf
bag to support fundraising efforts by The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). Tumi will
donate 20 percent of the retail price of this bag to the BCRF, an organization that has raised over
$120 million since its inc eption in 1993. For more information, visit
www.bcrfcure.org.
In addition, Tumi is offering a limited edition backpack co-designed by internationally
renowned artist Anish Kapoor to benefit Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF).
Tumi will produce 500 of the limited edition backpacks and donate 100 percent of the proceeds to
MSF, which is an independent, international humanitarian aid organization that provides emergency
medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 70 countries around the world.
Healthy, Fresh And Delicious
Seasons 52, a casually sophisticated fresh grill and wine bar, has just opened at 90
Perimeter Center Parkway, Atlanta. A second location will open in November at Two Buckhead Plaza.
The Florida-based restaurant offers such rustic cooking styles as grilling over oak and mesquite
chips and caramelizing vegetables and fruits to intensify their natural flavors. The restaurant
focuses on whole food carbohydrates like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains instead of
refined carbohydrates and simple sugars. In keeping in line with its healthy attitude, nothing on
the menu is more than 475 calories.
