4 Tips To Better Skin for the Holiday Season

November 28, 2007

The hectic holidays are here, and shopping, traffic, crowds, relatives, greeting cards and social events take over your life in December. On top of the stress and little downtime, the weather is playing havoc on your skin, just in time for the holiday parties. Is there a quick fix to making your skin look and feel the very best during these trying times? We spoke with Dr. Anna Pare, an Atlanta-based cosmetic dermatologist, to ask her what she recommends on improving your skin when time is limited:

Talk to an expert – For the holidays, find treatments that maximize what you want to do, and talk to your aesthetician or dermatologist about it. “You need to have treatments with a short amount of down time with the most benefit,” Dr. Pare says. “Very simple things like facials, microdermabrasions, and some very carefully chosen chemical and laser peels with very little down time can give that patient that radiant glow.”

Product placement – Injectibles such as Botox can also be used as a quick fix, and can help reduce wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. “By going through some of these injectible treatments, within a few days you will have a result of reduction of facial lines and head lines,” she says. Great for reversing the signs of aging, but these treatments can’t reverse the signs of holiday stress!

Plan accordingly – Don’t want to show up at a holiday party red-faced from last week’s chemical peel? Be wary of certain procedures and treatments that take longer to heal. With injectibles, time is also of the essence, as various products may leave slight bruising for a few days. Make sure to plan ahead.

Weather watch – Skin care products you use in the summer aren’t exactly what you want to use in the winter months, where the colder weather will typically dry your skin. Dr. Pare recommends products that are chemically balanced and lubricating to prevent dryness. “There are several that are more emollient and a little heavier. They focus on deep hydration and are significantly emollient topicals.”
